2024 Poll: 64% of Americans won’t vote for Trump.
Donald Trump, the former U.S. President, has consistently touted his growing favour within the Republican ranks after each new allegation against him. Nevertheless, recent findings from a fresh survey conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Centre for Public Affairs Research reveal a stark contrast: approximately 63% of Republicans are unequivocally against his potential return to political office.
This percentage represents a noticeable increase from the previous 55% recorded in April, a time coinciding with Trump’s initial legal troubles. While Trump may bask in his Republican backing, the survey outcomes hint at a potentially arduous path in the general election arena, as a considerable portion of Americans remain staunchly opposed to his candidature.
Out of the entire American populace, roughly 74%, primarily Republicans, express their intention to back Trump if he chooses to run for office in November 2024. However, a significant 53% of this group vehemently assert that they would unequivocally NOT lend their support if he secured the nomination. An additional 11% indicate a likelihood of withholding their backing in the November 2024 elections. In total, these figures add up to an astonishing 64% of Americans who appear disinclined to cast their vote for Trump in 2024.
These findings bolster the contentions of Trump’s adversaries. While acknowledging his popularity within the Republican nomination process, they emphasise his potential inability to clinch victory in a general election where votes must be garnered beyond the confines of the staunchly Republican base.
In the 2016 campaign, Trump conceded the popular vote but managed to secure the presidency by prevailing in the Electoral College. Fast forward to the 2020 election, and he faced a more pronounced defeat at the hands of Democrat Joe Biden, who amassed a margin of victory amounting to 7 million votes. Trump’s recurring claims of widespread voter fraud, despite being debunked, continue to propagate this narrative as the cause of his defeat.
