L’Oréal Heiress Françoise Bettencourt Meyers Hits $100 Billion Net Worth
Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, the heiress to the L’Oréal beauty empire, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first woman to accumulate a fortune surpassing $100 billion. The French beauty giant, founded by her grandfather, is experiencing remarkable stock market success, with L’Oréal shares reaching record highs in Paris.
The firm’s stock performance is notably robust, marking a significant rebound in sales following the pandemic, during which reduced makeup usage was observed due to lockdowns. This resurgence in L’Oréal’s market value has contributed to Ms. Bettencourt Meyers’ extraordinary financial achievement.
At 70 years old, Françoise Bettencourt Meyers is now ranked as the 12th richest person globally, with her net worth exceeding the $100 billion mark, as per the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. While her wealth is substantial, she trails behind Bernard Arnault, founder of LVMH, the world’s largest luxury group, who holds the second position on the list with a net worth of $179 billion.
Serving as the vice chairperson of L’Oréal’s board, Ms. Bettencourt Meyers, along with her family, commands the largest single stake in the company, totaling around 35%. She inherited the role of L’Oréal’s heiress after her mother, Liliane Bettencourt, passed away in 2017. Liliane, frequently recognised as France’s wealthiest person, had been involved in a public dispute with Françoise, her sole child, accusing a photographer and socialite of taking advantage of her mental frailty.
In 2011, a French court determined that Liliane had a form of dementia, granting Françoise control over her mother’s wealth and income. Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, known for prioritising privacy over social events, has established herself as a private individual. She spends hours playing the piano daily and has authored two books: a comprehensive study of the Bible and a genealogy of the Greek gods.
Despite her immense wealth, Françoise Bettencourt Meyers is characterised by her inclination to live within the confines of her family, maintaining a low profile in contrast to the extravagant lifestyles often associated with the world’s affluent individuals.
