The Russian village emptied ahead of the historic lunar lander’s mission launch.
In preparation for Russia’s long-awaited lunar lander mission, the Luna-25, scheduled for its inaugural launch from the Vostochny Cosmodrome on August 11, a remote village in the far east of Russia will undergo evacuation procedures. This significant event marks Russia’s first lunar lander mission since 1976, signifying a momentous advancement in their space exploration efforts.
The Luna-25 lunar lander, which will be propelled into space by a Soyuz-2 Fregat booster, is set to touch down on the South Pole of the moon, a pioneering achievement for the Russian space agency, Roscosmos. Alexei Maslov, the head of the Verkhnebureinskyi district, confirmed the evacuation plan, emphasising the region’s rivers and ferry crossing areas within the predicted fall zone.
Upon successful launch, the Luna-25 is anticipated to establish a presence on the lunar surface for a year.
