‘Bengal Always Fights For Humanity, Unity And Integrity’: Mamata At Inauguration Of Kolkata International Film Festival
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, reportedly remarked that the state constantly strives for integrity, humanity, and togetherness and does not submit to anyone on these matters.
The chief minister stated Bengal has a long history of struggle while speaking at the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) opening ceremony on Thursday at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.
“Bengal has been battling for integrity, diversity, humanity, and unity. She continued, “This struggle will continue, and our state neither begs nor bows to anyone.”
Notably, the West Bengal government has urged the Center to release funds on numerous occasions to pay off GST debts. The MNGREA and CM Mamata Banerjee have also had meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the matter.
The chief minister urged during her speech that Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan be given the Bharat Ratna award for his enormous contributions to Indian and international cinema.
“Although not formally, we will raise this demand to give Amitabh Bachchan the Bharat Ratna award for his long-term contributions to Indian cinema.” Mamata Banerjee added that he is terrific as a person, too.
“Amitabh Bachchan has come and elaborately expressed what none of us can say,” Banerjee added about him bringing up the subject of free speech in theatres. Civil freedoms and freedom of expression are still being questioned today, as my colleagues on stage would probably agree.
Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, actors Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, and Rani Mukherjee, cricketer Sourav Ganguly, director Mahesh Bhatt, singers Kumar Sanu and Arijit Singh, and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt were also present for the opening.
