Centre to initiate eviction proceedings against Bhagwant Mann for ‘unauthorised’ occupation of govt bungalow
The Directorate of Estates has been directed by the Lok Sabha Secretariat to begin eviction proceedings against AAP leader and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for “unauthorised” use of a government residence in Delhi.
As a member of parliament, Mann was given central government housing in the national capital as a member of. In March, he resigned as a member of the Sangrur Municipal Council to become Punjab’s chief minister.
According to the Secretariat’s plea to the estate’s officer, Mann was assigned the Central government’s Duplex No. 33, North Avenue, together with its units and 153 North Avenue, as his regular lodging as a member of the 17th Lok Sabha. “With effect from April 14, the aforementioned allotment stands cancelled in his name,” it stated, adding that Mann had failed to quit the property. The LS Secretariat also stated that the former MP’s occupation of the building beyond April 13 is “unauthorised.”
The appeal to the estate’s officer says: “It is, therefore, requested that proceedings for the eviction of Bhagwant Mann, ex-MP, and all other persons be launched, and orders for their eviction be passed.”
According to policy, central government officials, MPs, judges, and other dignitaries are granted residential housing in the national capital when in service and based in Delhi. After their tenure expires or ends prematurely, they are no longer eligible to occupy the accommodation.
According to PRS Legislative, a central government estate official must first issue a written notice to the individual concerned, after which he or she must show cause within three working days as to why an eviction notice should not be issued against them.
