Director Gautham writes a touching letter to Rangamma Patti
Rangamma Patti, a veteran Tamil actress best known for her humorous roles, died on April 29 at the age of 83 in Coimbatore. The acclaimed actress lived in the Telugupalayam hamlet near Annur in the Coimbatore district, where she had starred in films alongside well-known comedians Vadievelu and Vivek.
For several months, she had been suffering from age-related problems.
Now, Gautham, the director of Tamil, with whom Rangamma Patti collaborated on multiple films, has posted a touching message on Facebook. He wrote: “No one can forget Rangamma’s grandmother’s smirk in the movie, which I directed, as she smiles like a child, patting the back of my shoulder with her hand.”
Rengamma Patti’s artistic path, which started with Ms Jayalalithaa and lasted four generations till her death, was difficult.

Rangamma made her film debut in 1967 in MGR’s Vivasaayee. She just had a small part in the movie. Throughout her career, the actress has performed the role of a dupe for several different actresses. During her six-decade career, she has appeared in over 1,000 films. Rangamma has worked with several well-known Tamil actors, including Ajith, Vijay, Vishal, Kamal Haasan, and Rajinikanth.
In 2013, she also starred in the short film Kuttima. The film was written and directed by Ganesh Kumar Mohan.
