Ex-RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan joins Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan
Rahul Gandhi, a member of Congress, and Raghuram Rajan, a former RBI governor, travelled together on December 14 as part of the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan.
Videos posted on social media this morning during the Congress yatra’s continuation from Bhadoti to Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan showed Mr. Rajan and the former Congress president speaking while marching.
The Congress tweeted in Hindi the following after posting a photo of the two: “Shri Raghuram Rajan, former Governor of the RBI, meets @RahulGandhi ji.” We will be successful, as seen by the growing number of people taking a stance to fight hatred across the nation.
Mr. Rajan, a vocal opponent of demonetization and other economic efforts, claimed that the Narendra Modi-led government’s “political and social agenda” was to blame for the economic downturn.
He was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from September 2013 to September 2016. Between 2003 and 2006, he was the Director of Research and Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund.
In response to Mr. Rajan’s engagement, a BJP leader named Amit Malviya claimed that he “fancies himself as the next Manmohan Singh.”
The Bharat Jodo Yatra will have been in progress for 100 days as of December 16.
The pilgrimage set off from Kanyakumari on September 7 and has since passed through the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. Jammu and Kashmir will serve as the event’s hosts in early February 2023.
Rajasthan is the only state where the Congress party is in charge. On December 21, the yatra will cross into Haryana after travelling for 17 days and nearly 500 miles.
