In a Chennai airport complex, PVR Cinemas opens the country’s first multiplex.
The first multiplex in the nation to be located inside an airline complex, PVR Cinemas’ five-screen facility at PVR Aerohub in Chennai, has officially opened. Along with helping the neighborhood’s residents, this particular facility will meet the entertainment demands of travellers arriving and leaving. It can accommodate 1155 viewers and is furnished with state-of-the-art cinematic techniques, such as 2K RGB+ laser projections, REAL D 3D digital stereoscopic projection for absolutely clear, razor-sharp, ultra-bright pictures, and powerful Dolby Atmos high definition realistic audio.
With the opening of this location, PVR Cinemas will have 12 properties with 77 screens in Chennai while strengthening its presence in Tamil Nadu with 88 screens across 14 buildings. It will have 328 screens spread over 53 locations in South India.
“We are incredibly pleased to announce the launch of our 14th property in Tamil Nadu and signal our participation in the fast-evolving transit-oriented development projects in the country,” said Ajay Bijli, Chairman and Managing Director of PVR Ltd. We all need enjoyment in our daily lives, yet customers are generally cash-rich and time-poor. “There is no better method for transit users to utilise their downtime than to watch movies,” he continued.
The decision to build a theatre close to the airport was made strategically, according to Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Joint Managing Director of PVR Limited.
The new venue has already started hosting movie screenings. “Varisu,” “Thunivu,” “Pathaan,” “Avatar: The Way of Water” in 3D, and “Yet to Come in Cinemas” were the first films to be shown to the general public. These films were re-edited and modified for the big screen.
With 908 screenings across 182 locations in 78 cities (Sri Lanka and India), PVR’s growth momentum in FY 2022–23 is strengthened by its opening.
