K-pop star Moonbin, 25, was found dead in his apartment in Seoul

According to reports, at the age of 25, Moonbin, a K-pop idol, was found dead. As per his manager, he was found unconscious at his apartment in Seoul on the night of Wednesday.

The south Korean police said, “all the evidence shows that he appears to have taken his own life, but that exact reason for death can only be confirmed after the autopsy report.”

He was a member of the Korean boy band Astro; he joined the group in 2016 at the age of 18, and before that he also worked as an actor and model.

According to Rob Schwartz, an Asia correspondent for Billboard Magazine, joining the group has made a dramatic difference in his career; he is in a “rare group of K-pop stars.”

He also adds that because of social media, the K-pop artists are under intense pressure from their fans to maintain their looks and appearance.

Together with another Astro member, Sanha, Moonbin has been performing as a pair since 2020. In the midst of a world tour, Moonbin and Sanha gave their final performance on April 8 in Bangkok.

According to the “label Fantiago,” all Astro’s members will travel back to Seoul on Thursday to attend Moonbin’s funeral. In order to allow Moonbin’s relatives to pay tribute privately, the label also pleaded with the public to “refrain from hypothetical and nasty reports.”

The suicide rate among young people in South Korea is the highest. While the general suicide rate is declining, the number of deaths among people in their 20s is increasing. Four suicides have occurred recently, just in the K-pop industry.

On Wednesday evening, South Korean street monuments were set up as a result of social media posts from admirers who had laid flowers and post-it notes there. Additionally, the singer’s last performance in Thailand included a lot of purple and silver, so fans linked those colours together as balloons.

Moonbin revealed to fans that he had been having some trouble at a recent performance while on the “Diffusion” tour with Sanha in support of the duo’s most recent EP record, according to Korean broadcaster SBS.

This Saturday, the duo is going to perform in Japan, Macau, and Indonesia.
