LadBaby Breaks Tradition, Opts Out of Releasing Christmas Chart-Topper for 2023

The festive season in the UK will witness a break from tradition as internet stars LadBaby, renowned for securing the Christmas number one spot for five consecutive years, have decided to forgo releasing a Christmas single this year. Mark and Roxanne Hoyle, the duo behind LadBaby, made the announcement on Instagram, expressing their desire to “pass the baton over” and highlighting the uniqueness of a sausage roll-themed song topping the charts.

LadBaby’s decision to step back from the Christmas chart race comes after a successful streak of novelty charity singles, such as “I Love Sausage Rolls” and “Don’t Stop Me Eatin’.” Last year, they achieved a historic feat by securing their fifth Christmas number one with “Food Aid.”

The couple addressed any “false stories” circulating about their songs, emphasising that the profits generated from these festive singles are dedicated to the Trussell Trust, a charity working to provide emergency food for individuals facing hardship.

While LadBaby’s decision was met with gratitude from fans relieved to be spared another song centred around sausage-filled pastries, it opens up the field for other artists vying for the coveted Christmas number one spot. LadBaby’s humorous and charitable approach to Christmas singles has become a notable tradition, creating anticipation each year for their quirky releases.

The odds for securing the Christmas number one spot this year have shifted, with classical singer Andrea Bocelli in the running with his song “Festa,” featured in the John Lewis Christmas ad. Additionally, Wheatus is making a bid for the top spot by reworking their naughty hit with “Christmas Dirtbag.”

While LadBaby has taken a step back, the competition for the Christmas chart-topper remains lively, featuring both new contenders and beloved classics from artists like Mariah Carey, Wham, and The Pogues.
