Maruti Suzuki plans to sell 6 lakh CNG units in Current fiscal year
Based on supply conditions for crucial components, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) aims to sell 4–6 lakh CNG vehicles in the current fiscal year, according to a senior company official.
In 2021-22, the company sold around 2.3 lakh CNG units. According to a PTI report, MSI aims to introduce more models with CNG engines in the coming days, bringing the total number of vehicles with CNG engines to nine out of fifteen.
He answered a question on sales projections for the CNG segment for the current fiscal year. Srivastava believes that as the firm aims to introduce more models with alternative fuel technology, CNG automobiles’ share of overall sales will expand over time.
In 2016-17, it sold 74,000 units; in 2018-19, it sold roughly 1 lakh units; in 2019–20, it sold 1.05 lakh units; and in 2020–21, it sold 1.62 lakh units. The debut of the S-CNG vehicle range is linked with and complements the government’s objective of reducing oil imports and increasing the amount of natural gas in the country’s primary energy mix from 6.2 per cent presently to 15 per cent by 2030, according to the automaker.
The government, for its part, is aiming to expand the country’s CNG fuel pump network as quickly as possible. Srivastava elaborated on the automaker’s dominance in the total PV market, saying that the firm had eight of the top ten selling models last fiscal year.
According to Srivastava, the SUV market rose rapidly in the previous fiscal year, accounting for nearly 40% of the overall domestic passenger car segment.
Srivastava, speaking about the whole domestic passenger car industry, said segment volumes increased by 13% to 30.7 lakh units in the last fiscal year, up from 27.11 lakh units in 2020–21.
Srivastava added that the manufacturer has yet to reach 100% capacity in terms of production. MSI’s manufacturing operations in Haryana and Gujarat currently have a combined production capacity of roughly 5.5 lakh units per quarter or about 22 lakh units per year.
