Ready for ‘any order by govt’: Army General on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir
Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi, commander of the Northern Army, stated on Tuesday that the Indian Army is prepared to carry out orders from the Indian Government, such as reclaiming Kashmir from Pakistan.
The Indian Army will obey any orders issued by the Indian government, so far as that is concerned. We will always be prepared for such orders, according to Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi, who spoke to ANI.
The military is always prepared to ensure that the ceasefire understanding is upheld because it is in the best interests of both countries, but if it is ever broken, Lt. Gen. Dwivedi promised that India and Pakistan would respond appropriately.
Recall that Rajnath Singh, India’s defence minister, had previously reaffirmed New Delhi’s intention to retake Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), promising that all refugees would regain their homes and lands.
In its occupation of Kashmir, Pakistan is “committing atrocities” against its citizens, and as a result, it will be held accountable, he said.
The defence minister said about the atrocities committed by Pakistan against the residents of PoK that the neighbouring nation will “bear its consequences.”
“I would want to ask Pakistan about the rights granted to the residents of our areas where it has maintained an unlawful occupation.” We frequently hear about the atrocities committed against innocent Indians, for which Pakistan bears full responsibility. “Here, I’m referring to Kashmir, which Pakistan currently occupies,” he continued.
In defence of human rights, Singh charged that Pakistan was “dropping crocodile tears,” adding that “the suffering of the people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir equally concerns us and not just them.”
In a rare break with tradition, Prime Minister Modi also brought up the situation in Pakistan-occupied territories in his speech on Independence Day in 2016 and claimed that the people of Balochistan and Gilgit thanked him for bringing up their concerns.
