Rohit leads India to ODI series victory against England

England suffered another heavy defeat in the second one-day international in Cuttack, as India sealed the series with a match to spare.

Set a target of 305, England’s tour struggles continued as India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, played a brilliant knock of 119 from 90 balls, driving India toward victory.

Rohit was dismissed in the 30th over, miscuing a full toss from Liam Livingstone, but by then, only 85 more runs were needed. India faltered slightly but still managed to win by four wickets with 33 balls to spare.

Rohit’s century was his first for India in 11 months, while England are still looking for consistency under new coach Brendon McCullum.

England wasted a solid start from an opening partnership of 81 between Ben Duckett and Phil Salt, with Duckett departing for 65. Although all of England’s top six passed 25, Joe Root top-scored with 69, and England were bowled out with one ball left in their innings.

The final match of the series will be held in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, marking England’s last game before their Champions Trophy opener against Australia on 22 February.

England all-rounder Jacob Bethell, who picked up a hamstring injury during the first ODI, was ruled out of the Cuttack match and will also miss the Champions Trophy.
