Selena Gomez has officially made it onto the billionaire celebrity rich list
Selena Gomez, who first gained fame as a child star on Barney & Friends and the Disney Channel, has now reached a new milestone: billionaire status. The 32-year-old actress and singer has amassed a net worth of $1.3 billion, according to Bloomberg, which added her to its billionaire index on Friday.
Much of Gomez’s wealth is attributed to her cosmetics company, Rare Beauty, which she founded five years ago and retains a stake in valued at over $1 billion. Rare Beauty’s success, particularly its popular liquid blush and lip tint, has made Gomez one of the youngest female self-made billionaires, joining the ranks of other notable figures like Taylor Swift and Rihanna.
The brand’s impressive performance includes net sales of $400 million in the year leading up to February. In addition to her business ventures, Gomez has earned tens of millions from endorsement deals with major brands such as Louis Vuitton, Coach, and Puma. Her role in the Emmy-nominated Hulu series Only Murders in the Building has also been lucrative, with her earning at least $6 million per season. The show has recently been renewed for a fifth season.
Despite her achievements in both film and music, including multiple Emmy and Grammy nominations, these contributions make up only a small portion of her overall wealth. Born in Texas, Gomez has spent nearly three decades in the public eye, with her personal life—ranging from her fashion choices to her health struggles, including bipolar disorder and lupus—frequently in the spotlight.
Gomez has shared her family’s journey from Mexico, starting with her aunt traveling in the back of a truck and recording Spanish-language music. Last year, she became the most-followed woman on Instagram, with over 424 million followers, surpassing both Taylor Swift and Kylie Jenner. Despite her social media prominence, she has openly discussed the platform’s negative effects on her mental health and has occasionally taken breaks from it.
Reflecting on her career’s longevity, Gomez once remarked in a BBC1 interview, “It’s weird it’s almost two decades…am I too old?” She added, “You know what’s crazy, is that a lot of times I don’t even feel I’ve started.”
