Instagram currently prohibits such accounts for some time who constantly send hateful and abusive messages but with the new policy, such accounts will get deactivated.
Instagram said in an official statement “Now if someone continues to send violating messages, we’ll disable their account. We’ll also disable new accounts created to get around our messaging restrictions, and will continue to disable accounts we find that are created purely to send abusive messages”.
Instagram further said that it provides more control to private accounts and will roll out these features in every country soon. “People can also choose to turn off tags or mentions from anyone they don’t know or block anyone who sends them unwanted messages,” it added.
The new changes are an aftereffect of the racist online abuse faced by a UK footballer on the app.
“We’re also committed to cooperation with UK law enforcement authorities on hate speech and will respond to valid legal requests for information in these cases”, said Instagram.
Instagram has said that it always takes action against any sort of hate message, but it is now tightening the measures to control the hatred and abusive trolls on the social media platform.
Instagram said that during July and September of last year it took action against 6.5 million hate speech.
