India fared far better than other countries in the Omicron surge

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday that aggressive efforts in India’s COVID-19 immunisation drive helped the country prevent the spread of Omicron, which was six times greater globally than the previous wave.
In a webinar, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, spoke about India’s vaccination achievements in comparison to other countries and the government’s proactive management.
Today, India fared far better than the rest of the world in terms of the omicron surge. Today, 15–17 million instances are recorded worldwide, but India reports roughly 3000 cases each day.
“India has given out over 180 crore vaccine shots, 3.2 times more than the US and 12.5 times more than France.” “India has 81 crore fully vaccinated beneficiaries, which is 3.9 times the US and 15.6 times France,” Agarwal said.
At least the first dose has been given to 96.74 crore adult recipients, which is 2.96 times the population of the United States and 6.71 times the population of Russia.” On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, 2.5 core vaccination doses are provided in a single day, which is similar to the population of Australia. In less than a year, 150 crore doses were provided, making it one of the world’s highest rates, “he said.
He went on to say that the research revealed that immunizations were effective in battling the Omicron variety, with fewer people becoming infected, lower severity of infection, and fewer deaths.
The Union Health Minister praised the efforts of healthcare professionals and non-governmental organisations in managing the COVID issue and administering vaccines in the country.
He also encouraged non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to keep working in health and wellness centres. “Our health workers did not stop working throughout the COVID crisis; in fact, several of them died as a result of the pandemic,” he said.
