Virat Kohli needs to score runs not only for India but for himself: Sourav Ganguly
The master of Indian batting, Virat Kohli, has seen his form deteriorate over the past several months. His lack of form was also on display during the recent England tour.
In four innings of the white-ball series, the 33-year-old could only produce 45 runs.
Additionally, Kohli decided to forego the tours to Zimbabwe and the West Indies in favour of attempting to regain his rhythm. Now that India’s campaign is set to begin against their bitter rivals, Pakistan, on Sunday, August 28, he will be seen in the Asia Cup. His support will be crucial to the Men in Blue capturing their third straight Asia Cup championship and instilling confidence before the T20 World Cup.
Sourav Ganguly, president of the BCCI, discussed Kohli’s performance with the media before the Asia Cup. He gave off the impression that he was confident that Kohli would win the tournament and get back to his best. In addition, Ganguly said that the cricketer, who was born in Delhi, is working hard in the practice arena and is anticipating positive outcomes soon.
He did, however, add that Kohli needs some runs as well to boost his confidence going forward.
Because of the time, there are fewer opportunities to score a hundred in a T20 match. But maybe Kohli will have a strong season this year.
The 50-year-old believes that, since 1992, India has dominated matches between Pakistan and the ICC. He also believes that the Men in Green’s loss to India in the T20 World Cup 2021 will not have much of an impact on this game. In his opinion, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli, in his opinion, are adept at handling pressure.
“I have closely followed Indo-Pak matches since 1992. In these 30 years, we have only lost once. You won’t always prevail; it’s not magic. It’s not a big deal if you lose once or twice, Ganguly added.
