Elton John crafts a fresh spectacle exclusively for Glastonbury Festival.
Sir Elton John has disclosed that he has devised an entirely fresh performance for his highly anticipated headline show at Glastonbury this Sunday. Although he is concluding his farewell tour with this festival appearance, the music icon advised fans to anticipate the unexpected elements.
In an interview, he revealed that he would kick off the show with a song he hasn’t played in approximately a decade and expressed curiosity about how it would be received. With the setlist finalised and rehearsal dates scheduled for guest artists, Sir Elton John voiced his hope for pleasant weather during the event.
This Sunday’s performance will occur more than five years after the announcement of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which encompassed a staggering 350 dates. Originally intended to culminate in 2021, the tour was impacted by reschedulings due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the singer’s hip injury sustained last year.
The Glastonbury appearance will mark the conclusion of his touring commitments in the United Kingdom, and Sir Elton John described it as a fitting and ideal ending during an interview with Clara Amfo on Radio 1.
To keep the show fresh, the renowned artist revamped the setlist, incorporating lesser-known tracks alongside his popular hits. He likened the process of constructing a setlist to the act of engaging in intimate relations, starting strongly, easing into a more relaxed pace, and then culminating in an electrifying finale.
Fans are eager for Sir Elton’s Glastonbury performance to mirror the grandeur of his final US shows at LA’s Dodger Stadium last year, where he was joined on stage by guest artists such as Kiki Dee, Dua Lipa, and Brandi Carlile. While Sir Elton has confirmed the presence of special guests at the Worthy Farm festival, their identities remain a well-kept secret.
