Edward Enninful tops Powerlist 2024 as the UK’s most influential black figure
Edward Enninful, OBE, the editor-in-chief of British Vogue, has claimed the title of the UK’s most
influential black person in the Powerlist 2024. This annual list by Powerful Media spotlights individuals
of African, African Caribbean, and African American heritage and serves as a platform for black role
models, especially for young people.
Enninful’s journey to this recognition is remarkable. He is the first black man to hold the top position at
British Vogue. Earlier this year, he announced his decision to step down to work on global brand
expansion and focus on other projects. His role as the European editorial director at Condé Nast
underlines his significant influence in the fashion world.
Born in Ghana, Enninful moved to London at a young age. His career in the fashion industry began when
he was discovered as a teenager while on a train. He then ventured into editorial work, becoming the
fashion director of i-D, a British youth culture magazine, at just 18. This achievement marked him as the
youngest editor at a major international fashion publication.
Edward Enninful, who recently turned 51, expressed his honour at being ranked number one on the
ower List. He mentioned that this list highlights individuals who are breaking boundaries, are unafraid,
and passionately advocate for true diversity within their respective industries.
The Powerlist’s recognition spans a wide array of fields, including business, science, technology, and the
arts. The 2024 list features notable figures like Afua Kyei, the Bank of England’s chief financial officer,
and Steven Bartlett, known for his role on Dragon’s Den and his podcast.
This recognition in the Powerlist 2024 solidifies Edward Enninful’s position as a trailblazer and role
model, showing that his impact extends far beyond the world of fashion and into the broader arena of
influence and leadership.
