WhatsApp introduces a new Events feature for group chats. What does it do and how does it function?
Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is launching a new Events feature aimed at simplifying the organization of meetings and gatherings directly within group chats.
According to a WABetaInfo report, the feature is being rolled out with WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.20 update and will soon be available widely. Initially limited to Community Group chats, the Events feature is now expanding to regular group chats as well.
The new feature allows users to create Events within group chats by specifying details such as name, description, date, location, and information about voice or video calls. After creation, group members can accept or decline invitations, and creators can update event details as necessary. Events in group chats remain private, with only participants having access to event specifics.
Future updates may include functionalities like event reminders and the ability to set cover photos. Additionally, Meta has begun rolling out its Meta AI assistant to users in India through WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.
The AI assistant provides real-time search results from Microsoft and Google, offering insights and information directly within conversations, such as travel planning or finding optimal routes.
