PM Modi will be heading the 10th International Yoga Day celebrations in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. This year’s event highlights Yoga’s profound impact on youth physical and mental health. The festivities aim to bring together thousands in practicing Yoga to promote global health and wellness.

During the event, the Prime Minister will address participants and join in the Common Yoga Protocol session, emphasizing Yoga’s role in nurturing physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav will also attend the event alongside other dignitaries. Over 7,000 individuals from diverse backgrounds will gather on the banks of Dal Lake, Srinagar to commemorate this special occasion.

Since 2015, Prime Minister Modi has led IDY celebrations at various iconic locations including Delhi’s Kartavya Path, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Lucknow, Mysuru, and the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” underscores Yoga’s dual benefits in personal and societal well-being.

In an effort to maximize Yoga’s reach, Prime Minister Modi has urged Gram Pradhans to promote holistic health awareness at the grassroots level. This year’s celebrations will span the nation, including events such as “Yoga for Space” involving ISRO centers and units, and Gaganyaan project team participation. IDY observances at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari and global participation by Indian Embassies and Missions further demonstrate Yoga’s global influence.

Secretary of Ayush Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha has highlighted IDY’s journey, emphasizing its role in promoting health, social values, and community spirit. The ‘Whole of Government’ approach to IDY includes coordinated efforts across various departments and active involvement from state governments and union territories. The National Ayush Mission is organizing events nationwide to showcase Yoga’s holistic health benefits.

In Delhi, the Ministry of Ayush has collaborated with NDMC, ASI, and DDA to organize mass Yoga events. To engage the public, the Ministry has launched contests like the “Yoga with Family” Video Contest on MyGov and MyBharat platforms in partnership with ICCR, encouraging families worldwide to celebrate Yoga and strengthen familial bonds. Submissions for this contest are due by June 30, 2024.
