Ritika Dahiya, a captain of the Indian Army, was chosen on Monday to lead the nation’s three-person equestrian squad in the women’s international tent pegging championship, which will take place in Wadi Rum, Jordan, from September 22 to 24.

The other members of the squad are Priyanka Bhardwaj of New Delhi and Nanda Agrawal of Uttar Pradesh, according to the Equestrian Federation of India (FEI).

Khushi Singh, a 21-year-old player from New Delhi, has also been added to the team as a reserve.

India will be competing for the first time in the Grand Prix competition, which is only open to female competitors and is organised by the International Tent Pegging Federation.

The competition will feature top riders from 12 nations, including Oman, Russia, the UK, Kazakhstan, Norway, South Africa, and Pakistan.

“We are dedicated to giving each qualified athlete equal opportunities. The EFI had invited interested athletes from all over the country to participate in a week-long coaching camp combined with selection trials at the Stallion Riding Club in Delhi Cantt, according to an announcement from Colonel Jaiveer Singh, the EFI Secretary General.

“And then these four guys have been chosen based on the order of merit in the camp.”

Colonel Satinder Singh Solanki (retd), who has previously led the Indian team to gold medal victories as a coach in numerous international tent peg competitions in nations like South Africa and Egypt, will be the team’s head coach.

The chosen riders are already participating in the coaching session in Delhi Cantonment and will depart for Jordan on Tuesday.
